The new hub aims to provide services to cloud giants like Google, AWS, Microsoft and Tencent, in the midst of high demand for data centers.
Equinix will be launching their fourth data center in Tai Seng, Singapore with an initial investment of USD 85.3 million. With this launch, Equinix seeks to provide co-location, data center and SDN services to cloud giants like AWS, Google, Tencent as well as to enterprises belonging to sectors like finance, healthcare, automation etc.
According to Equinix, Singapore has been one of the most sought after locations when it comes to building data centers. They say that the connectivity provided by the city, proximity to international networks and the presence of global enterprises are some key reasons for choosing Singapore to build data centers.
By launching another data center in Singapore, Equinix say that they will create more opportunities for enterprises and interconnect international as well as regional customers, partners and stakeholders. They say that this data center will be providing services to small and large enterprises belonging to communications, media, finance and other upcoming sectors in the region.
Equinix revealed that the new data center (SG4) will be furnished with state-of-the-art technology and occupy 132,180 sq.feet of space with 4000 cabinets. They claim that this facility will be connected with low-latency dark fiber links and allow customers to securely connect more than 600 companies.
In closing, the data center firm said that they will begin the first phase with 45,ooo sq.feet of space. It will be interesting to see how Equinix make the most of this, following the expansion of their third data center in September.
