US based communications and network solutions provider Zayo Group this week announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art data center located in Ashburn, Northern Virginia. Adding to the company’s zColo data center brand, the new facility becomes Zayo’s second data center in the area.

According to Zayo, the new data center boasts 46,000 feet of new raised floor space and has been certified Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA)-compliant, making it an attractive option for potential federal agencies.

Having entered Ashburn via its acquisition of colocation and IaaS (infrastructure as a service) solutions firm Latisys in 2015, Zayo has primarily pursued mid-market customers. However, the company believes that the new Ashburn facility will expand its operational footprint, resulting in it being able to target more high profile deals in the future.

Establishing a noticeable presence in a series of critical American markets through the transaction, Zayo operates data centers in Chicago, Englewood, Ashburn and Irvine, California. As Zayo continues to grow its datacenter business, it has also added a suite of managed services such as connectivity, cloud infrastructure, security and remote hands.
