Tech giant Google have accrued a total of USD 1.7 million within 2 days of the early access program (EAP) for .APP nTLD registrations. These quickfire registrations for the nTLD can be attributed to simplified ways of recording information and a huge demand for the .APP nTLD.

Google say that they paid a huge sum of USD 25 million in the ICANN auction to acquire .APP nTLD. Following this acquisition, Google also claim that they closed the Sunrise period with more than 3000 registrations for the nTLD.

Speaking about the EAP, Google say that the first day saw a total of 92 registrations with a pricing of around USD 12,000 whereas on the second day the pricing was dropped to USD 3,000. They further added that the second day witnessed more than 260 registrations and made a revenue of around USD 800,000.

According to Google, the registrations for .APP were led by domain names such as CASINO.APP, ACTIVE.APP, BITCOIN.APP, MUSIC.APP, STORE.APP and SHOP.APP on the first day. Where as on the second day, Google say that the registrations were led by domain names like 101.APP, 360.APP, DATING.APP, CARD.APP, BANK.APP and CHURCH.APP.

Industry experts claim that Google’s move of securing the .APP nTLD after announcing HSTS (HTTP Strict Transport Security) for the .GOOGLE TLD is one of the key factors behind these fast filling registrations. It will be interesting to what numbers are in store for the .APP nTLD.
