Disaster recovery firm ClearSky Data launches backup for VMware cloud

The launch seeks to secure data on-premises with the same layer of protection as that on the cloud without compromising on performance.

Disaster recovery

Disaster recovery (DR) company ClearSky Data have launched a cloud-based backup service for VMware’s customers. With this launch, ClearSky Data will be providing a scalable, secure and resilient service to help customers migrate and extend their on-premise environment’s on VMware Cloud on AWS with on-demand access.

According to ClearSky, organizations prefer storing their data in the cloud as well as on the premise. They claim that this approach helps enterprises to secure their data and recover it in case they experience unforeseen circumstances.

By launching a backup service for VMware Cloud on AWS, ClearSky say that they will be able to replicate the exact security measures taken on-premises to those on the cloud. They believe that this approach will allow them to reduce costs, improve efficiency and create operational efficiencies across cloud environments.

Speaking about this in detail, Kristen Edwards, Director, Technology Alliance Partner Program at VMware, commented:

VMware Cloud on AWS technology partners such as ClearSky enhance native VMware Cloud on AWS services and enable customers to realize new capabilities. Solutions such as ClearSky Data enable IT teams to reduce cost, increase efficiency and create operational consistency across cloud environments.

We’re excited to work with partners such as ClearSky to enhance native VMware Cloud on AWS capabilities and empower customers with flexibility and choice in solutions that can drive business value.

ClearSky claim that their on-demand backup and DR service is enabled through their Cloud Edge appliance, which can be co-located in AWS to provide on-demand primary storage services, with a built-in offsite backup and recovery. They added that with a single, durable copy of data, customers can quickly move their enterprise workloads to VMware Cloud on AWS without having to worry about excess fees or capacity.

It can be said that disaster recovery and data protection are gaining momentum in the cloud market. Another example that speaks volumes about enterprise’s need to secure data is the launch of JetStream Data Protection by JetStream, a cloud-backed data recovery company.
