Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing division of Alibaba Group Holding, has a new Chief Scientist in the form of Microsoft’s Jingren Zhou. Alibaba Cloud announced that Zhou would primarily be working in big-data and artificial intelligence research, trying to develop cloud-scale distributed computation platforms and data analytic products.
Zhou shall manage a team of China and U.S. based engineers working to develop technology in the areas of speech, natural language, image and video processing and large-scale machine learning.
Alibaba Cloud, launched in September 2009, is the fastest-growing business within Alibaba Group Holding. The firm enjoys an advantage in the huge Chinese market, which according to Barron’s shall experience a 100 percent growth in public-cloud usage over the next couple of years.
