Tech behemoth Alibaba Cloud has partnered with IoT sensors firm Libelium to drive adoption of IoT (Internet of Things) applications. As per the terms of the deal, Libelium will be leveraging their sensor network platform whereas Alibaba will be making the most out of their scalable cloud computing solutions.
According to Alibaba, organizations all around the world are looking at myriad ways to combine cloud and IoT technologies for smart city, agricultural and industrial projects. However, these organizations, Alibaba claim, face issues with respect to integrating data from the sensors to the cloud environments, causing asynchronous patterns.
By partnering with Libelium, Alibaba Cloud can leverage the IoT sensors provided by the former through their Meshlium IoT gateway, an IoT-to-cloud platform connecting route. With the help of this route, Alibaba believe that they will not only be able to overcome cloud connectivity challenges but also scalability issues for their customers.
Speaking about this move, Alicia Asín, CEO and co-founder of Libelium, commented:
This partnership between Alibaba Cloud and Libelium will bring great value to enterprises as they seek to invest in IoT solutions to improve its competitiveness in different productive sectors: from smart agriculture to smart cities and industry 4.0.
Libelium say that by combining Meshlium’s data gathering interoperability with Alibaba’s scalable cloud infrastructure, enterprises will easily be able to extend their IoT projects. The also say that Alibaba’s R&D, Anti-DDoS CDN (Content Delivery Network) and large database system will play a key role in delivering IoT applications on The IoT Marketplace.
Yeming Wang, General Manager of Alibaba Cloud EMEA (Europe Middle East and Africa), commented:
We look forward to working closely with Libelium to help customers on their journey of scaling IoT projects to Alibaba Cloud.
In closing, the tech behemoth said that they are expecting many SMBs to make the most out of this offering. Industry analysts claim that Alibaba are on a roll by putting their best foot forward with this deal and the one with Intel to boost their IoT prowess.
