Yahoo! Japan and NEXTDC are all set to expand their data centers in the U.S and Australia. With this expansion, Yahoo! Japan and NEXTDC aim to cater to the rising demand for data center services.
Yahoo! Japan say that they will be building their second data center facility in Washington, U.S.A, thanks to the surge in demand for data center services. They also say that they chose Washington for its strategic location since it serves many clients in the region.
According to Yahoo, their new data center will be built using ‘Open Compute Project’ designs to increase efficiency. They also said that the data center will span approx. 100,000 sq.feet with state-of-the-art facilities.
Miles away from the US, NEXTDC are planning to set up data centers in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Much like the demand in the US, NEXTDC admitted that Australia is also witnessing a strong demand for data center services.
In order to maximize uptime and minimize energy consumption, NEXTDC say that the data centers will be built to meet Tier-4 standards. They also added that the data centers will be connected seamlessly with existing NEXTDC data centers in each city to ensure that their clients can leverage their broad network.
Speaking about the expansion, Craig Scroggie, Chief Executive Officer for NEXTDC, commented:
We are incredibly excited by the breadth and depth of these new investments that will further support the exponential growth of the digital economy in Australia.
Over time these new infrastructure developments are expected to be the largest of their kind in Australia. These important strategic investments will extend our world class operation of Tier IV data centres across the Australian landscape.
