Puerto Rican ccTLD .PR have selected registry services operator Afilias for domain registry services. According to the contract signed between the two parties, the management of .PR is looking to capitalize Afilias’ wide network to provide the Puerto Rican community with stable IT support on the internet.
According to the management of .PR, the ccTLD was in dire need of a technical upgrade. They further added that after careful analysis, they were able to narrow down to Afilias as a potential partner to handle their registration services. Delighted by the agreement, Pablo Rodríguez, Executive Vice President of PRTLD (Puerto Rico Top Level Domain) said:
We are pleased to be working with Afilias, a recognized leader in registry technology. Afilias will help us both enhance the security and reliability of the registry and expand distribution and sales worldwide.
Echoing Rodriguez’s thoughts, Roland LaPlante, Chief Marketing Officer of Afilias commented:
Afilias is proud to be selected to provide technical services in support of the .PR TLD. Our technology will strengthen .PR to make it less susceptible to natural disasters, more reliable and secure, and more broadly available across the thousand registrars serviced by Afilias. We are looking forward to working with (…) the entire dotPR team to help .PR reach its full potential.
The news of Afilias’ contractual agreement for the .PR ccTLD has come a few weeks after a security incident in which the TLDs managed by Afilias were breached. However, Afilias confirmed that they have looked into the matter and have addressed the security concerns of their domain owners.
