Last week, Indian IT start-up firm Data Group launched a booking service with the .BHARAT extension for free. The .BHARAT extension will however be in the Devanagari script.
Data Group is the first company to start this service and while the name of the website can be registered for free, the company is offering email hosting in the price range of Rs 100 per month to Rs 1,500 per year.
Data Group said :
Our objective is to create enabling technology for promotion of content in regional languages in local languages as envisaged by government under Digital India programme.
This will help people develop content in Indian languages and provide access to those who don’t read and write English.
They claim that email IDs created in India scripts can connect with Gmail IDs and the service is being provided by the Xgen Plus unit of Data group. They also expressed their plans to start a service for creating free email IDs in Indian scripts.
