Today, data center company Equinix has announced the completion of the second phase expansion of its TY5 data center in Tokyo. The new phase adds an additional 375 cabinets to the facility, bringing the total capacity of the data center to 725 cabinets.
The TY5 data center was opened earlier this year and it represents a total investment of $43 million in the facility.
Equinix claims that they plan to continue investing in the Asia-Pacific region and cater to demands from local and global companies wanting to benefit from interconnection services in Japan, particularly across the cloud and financial sectors.
Equinix has opened four new IBX data centers in Dallas, São Paulo, Sydney and Tokyo in 2016.
Kei Furuta, Managing Director, Equinix Japan said :
Our continued growth in Japan highlights strong demand for a global interconnection platform that can support those wanting to expand in the Asia-Pacific region.
I would like to thank our founding partners and customers who have contributed to the successful launch and expansion of TY5.
