New gTLD giant Donuts has acquired .FAN domain from Asiamix Digital to entice businesses from sports, music, entertainment and related industries in order to extend their domain portfolio. The acquisition of the .FAN nTLD will take Donuts’ tally to 241 with general availability of the same expected in mid-September.
According to Donuts, fan engagement is a vital economic driver when it comes to fields like sports, gaming, e-sports, art and other such verticals. They believe that social media, news and analytics tools are ways in which teams, entertainers, musicians and performers can reach and know about their fan base.
In order to allow businesses belonging to these verticals to reach to a large audience, Donuts claim that adding .FAN domain to their domain portfolio was necessary. They say that this domain will join their other diverse nTLDs like .SOCCER, .THEATER, .ACTOR, .TENNIS, .DANCE, etc.
Speaking about the acquisition of the nTLD, John Pollard, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Donuts registry, commented:
We are excited to add .fan to our portfolio. Fans literally wear their allegiances on their sleeves, and a .fan domain name will clearly signal a destination for those who passionately support sports teams, musicians, performers, entertainers and causes.
In closing, Donuts said that since .FAN is a new release, it will enable registrants to obtain high-quality domain names that have been unavailable in legacy TLDs, and are more suitable for search and social media.
