Cloud facilitator Twilio have acquired SendGrid in a USD 3 billion deal to fortify their cloud communication platform. With this acquisition, Twilio aims to boost collaboration, messaging and customer engagement for enterprises by leveraging SendGrid’s email API capabilities.
The applications of the cloud are not only limited to managing workloads, say Twilio, given the adoption of cloud for communication purposes. They say that the need for enterprise collaboration and customer engagement are two drivers that have led to high demand for cloud-based communication platforms.
With their own cloud communication platform, Twilio believe that they are driving enough collaboration for enterprises but customer engagement and messaging are still a question mark. They further added that in spite of having video tools to accelerate communication, they are still not able to scale as much as they should.
By acquiring SendGrid, Twilio belive that they will be able to align their cloud communication portfolio with email, messaging, video and voice capabilities to drive enterprise collaboration. They also claim that they will be able to deliver personal messaging and customer engagement with unmatched scalability.
Sameer Dholakia, CEO at SendGrid states that effective customer engagement is a strategic imperative for their company. He also says that this acquisition will give them a much-needed momentum when it comes to cementing their spot as a cloud communications provider.
Industry experts claim that the SendGrid acquisition will redefine Twilio’s position in the market. It will be exciting to see how SendGrid and Twilio take this further, following Twilio’s partnership with Mitel for a new Google Cloud contact center.
