Cloud giant AWS unveil backup and recovery mechanism for on-prem and cloud

The launch seeks to provide faster data and backup recovery product for customers using databases, block storage, object storage and file systems.

Cloud giant AWS has unveiled their own backup and recovery product AWS Backup for on-premise and cloud users. With this launch, AWS aim to facilitate users with faster data and backup mechanism across databases, block storage, object storage and file systems.

AWS say that enterprises using cloud or traditional IT environments often face problems when it comes to data recovery or recuperation since the size of the data is large. This large data, they claim takes ages to get uploaded on some backup and recovery products which perform best only with a particular type of file.

By launching AWS Backup, the cloud giant says that they will provide enterprises with a fast recovery mechanism that will work under all conditions. They say that the AWS Backup is integrated with Amazon’s properties like Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS), Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS), Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), and AWS Storage Gateway.

Bill Vass, Vice President of Storage, Automation, and Management Services at AWS says that AWS’ services have attracted builders who want to develop products as well as thinkers who want to finetune AWS services. He claims that as a result of this, designing AWS Backup was much easier keeping the needs of these users in mind.

With the moves made by AWS in recent past, the AWS Backup storage will catapult their position in the cloud race. It will be interesting to see how the cloud giant takes this launch ahead, following the acquisition of Israeli firm CloudEndure for USD 250 million.
