HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprises) are all set to invest USD 4 billion in edge computing to boost their research and development in IoT (Internet of Things). With this investment, HPE will develop categories like security, artificial intelligence, machine learning and automation to provide accurate data analysis and personalization to customers.
According to HPE, the number of devices connected to the internet is increasing and will reach 20.4 billion by 2020. They also claim that enterprises are slowly adapting to edge computing strategies and more than 40% of enterprises will have edge computing as a critical part of their IT architecture by 2021.
By investing USD 4 billion in edge computing, HPE believe that they are betting on the right horse to gain a competitive advantage in the IoT landscape. They say that HPE will be providing customers with accurate data analysis and personalized customer experiences by leveraging the power of edge.
Speaking about this investment decision, Antonio Neri, President and CEO at HPE, commented:
Data is the new intellectual property, and companies that can distill intelligence from their data —whether in a smart hospital or an autonomous car—will be the ones to lead. HPE has been at the forefront of developing technologies and services for the intelligent edge, and with this investment, we are accelerating our ability to drive this growing category for the future.
The next evolution in enterprise technology will be in edge-to-cloud architecture. Enterprises will require millions of distributed clouds that enable real-time insights and personalized experiences exactly where the action is happening.
