Enterprise software giant SAP have launched a cloud-based IoT (Internet of Things) system for manufacturers. With this launch, manufacturers can monitor and manage their processes in the supply chain by leveraging its cloud computing and IoT prowess.
SAP say that they have launched two new offerings- ‘SAP Digital Manufacturing Cloud for execution’ and ‘SAP Digital Manufacturing Cloud for insights’. SAP Digital for execution seeks to give manufacturers complete visibility over operations whereas, SAP Digital for insights allows them to focus on data-driven performance management.
Along with these two offerings, SAP say that their ‘Predictive Quality’, which was also unveiled, will provide users with data in advance to reduce defects in their products.
Speaking about the launch, Bernd Leukert, Board member of SAP for Products and Innovation, commented:
Our manufacturing cloud solutions help customers take advantage of the industrial internet of things by connecting equipment, people and operations across the extended digital supply chain and tightly integrating manufacturing with business operations.
According to SAP, integrating multiple systems together will yield superior results to help manufacturers make better decisions. They also believe that manufacturers can collaborate and work on product designs together.
Industry analysts opine that this launch is a step in the right direction in a bid to optimize costs in the value-chain. It will be interesting to watch how manufacturers make the most of this SAP offering.
