Data center provider Advania is all set to expand their data center facility at Iceland. With this expansion, Advania aim to provide data center services to bitcoin miners, blockchain companies and other businesses having high-speed computing needs.
Advania say that the expansion is a result of a deal between them and Iceland’s national power facilitator Landsvirkjun for 30MW of power. They also claim that by extending their data center campus beyond the existing Thor and Mjölnir data center facilities, they will be tripling their data center prowess in a bid to meet hosting needs of businesses in the Nordic region.
Speaking about the expansion, Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO of Advania Data Centers, commented:
We have invested heavily in expertise and technical capabilities in recent years to better serve customers with high density hosting needs and this has strengthened the company’s position in a highly competitive environment. Our customers see the benefits of the energy savings that come with the natural air cooling of computer equipment in the data center.
Power facilitator Landsvirkjun say that partnering with Advania has benefitted the energy industry in Iceland. Explaining this, Hörður Arnarson, CEO of Landsvirkjun said:
The collaboration with Advania Data Centers has been successful. This has led to a new and progressive industry in Iceland, which pays a competitive price for energy.
Landsvirkjun can drive more support for its own operations while at the same time supporting further growth in the information technology industry in Iceland.
