Tech giants Microsoft and Xiaomi (MI) have entered into a strategic alliance to strengthen the latter’s product offerings in the global market. As per the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) signed, the partnership aims to leverage Microsoft Azure’s cloud and AI-based platforms to accomplish the same.
Microsoft say that Xiaomi’s business aspirations are crossing Chinese borders which made it necessary to move from a local to a global mindset. They further added that with this partnership, Xiaomi will deepen their already existing business relationship which will fortify their AI and cloud-based offerings.
As per the terms of the MoU, Microsoft say that the partnership will focus on four aspects namely- Microsoft’s Cortana and MI’s AI speaker, AI services, laptop devices and overall cloud support. They also say that by focusing on their four different streams, MI will be able to occupy a unique position in the global market when it comes to smartphones and laptop devices.
Speaking about the alliance, Dr. Harry Shum, executive vice president of Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence and Research Group said:
Xiaomi is one of the most innovative companies in China, and it is becoming increasingly popular in various markets around the world. Microsoft’s unique strengths and experience in AI, as well as our products like Azure, will enable Xiaomi to develop more cutting-edge technology for everyone around the world.
Delighted with this alliance, Wang Xiang, Global Senior Vice President and Head of International Business, Xiaomi, commented:
