Huawei Technologies, the Chinese networking and telecommunications giant, will soon be shifting one of it’s key data centers to a new location.
According to the Chinese-language Tencent portal, the telecom equipment vendor has relocated its data center from Shenzhen in southern China, to Dongguan, a neighboring city which is also located in the Guangdong province.
The data center in Shenzhen has been in operation for 14 years, a markedly long duration for a data center. With most equipment & infrastructure having reached or nearing end-of-life status, it became difficult for Huawei to maintain the facility.
The new data center will reportedly be equipped with over 3,000 server racks. After moving its data to the new location, the older Shenzhen facility is expected to be overhauled and re-purposed for other businesses.
