Vietnamese internet authority, VNNIC (Vietnam Internet Network Information Centre) are all set to increase the domain names operating beyond legacy TLDs like .COM, .NET and .ORG in the country. With this move, VNNIC will be catering to the new business segment that is emerging in Vietnam so as to help them find a firm foothold in the market.
According to VNNIC, Vietnam as a market has witnessed a gradual rise in the number of new businesses set up in the country as a result of- mobile and internet penetration, technological innovations and adoption of new policies for SMEs. As a result of this rise, VNNIC claim that new enterprises are looking at online presence as one of the major channels to focus on while reaching their target audience.
By launching new TLDs like .LOAN, .TOP, .ONLINE, .SITE, .CLUB, .WIN etc., VNNIC believe that they will allow new enterprises to create their own identity in the market and compete with the current players. They also claim that this step will also spur competition between legacy TLDs and nTLDs (newly released TLDs) in the Vietnamese market.
Speaking about the move, Huynh Ngoc Duy, CEO of Mat Bao Corporation, the official domain name registrar of ICANN and VNNIC, commented:
Many new domain name providers have contacted Mat Bao to bring their new domain names into Viet Nam. In order to meet the diverse demands of enterprises, Mat Bao has actively contacted many registrars to bring unique domain names to Viet Nam.
