Salons, hairdressers, stylists and beauty companies dedicated to helping people look their best can now experience their own digital makeovers as Donuts Inc. announced the launch of the ‘dot-salon’ (.salon) domain name extension.

Jeff Davidoff, Donuts Inc. Chief Marketing Officer said at the launch:

Like many industries, the salon industry is experiencing a digital revolution. Most of these changes are positive, like online booking apps. Some take the control out of the hand of salon owners, like Yelp or other review sites, so it’s never been more important for salon owners to have control over their own digital destiny.

Not-com domain name choices first launched to the general public in early 2014 and among many benefits, they provide more descriptive and creative means for individuals and businesses to brand their businesses, products and services. More meaningful names are also memorable, making it easier for customers and potential customers to find businesses online.

“A dot-salon domain name for a salon business is a no-brainer,” said Jon-David, a Chicago hairstylist and marketing consultant to salon businesses. “I changed my domain name to MafiaHairdresser.salon because this new URL clearly states that my business is a salon, whereas I always had to explain it before. The change is, simply, an excellent branding choice for any individual or business that wants to be more creative and expressive.”

The availability of the ‘dot-salon’ domain comes on the heels of a historic 2015 that saw new domain registrations grow by more than 300 percent. To give the not-com movement scale, new registrations surged past 17 million as of April 30, 2016, including 4.4 million during February and March 2016 alone. There are about 10,000 registered every day — that’s one registered every 10 seconds.
