It has been announced that two Chinese internationalized domain names (IDNs) belonging to TLD Registry have been accredited by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
On February 10, .在线 (Dot Chinese Online) and .中文网 (Dot Chinese Website) received the accreditation on Friday, 10th February.
In order to host domains in China, Chinese citizens must obtain an Internet Content Provider (ICP) license from MIIT. The approval from MIIT means that these extensions can now apply for local licenses to be hosted within China.
As reported by Domain Name Wire, the two domain names, .在线 (Dot Chinese Online) and .中文网 (Dot Chinese Website) remained idle for the past couple of years as TLD Registry waited for MIIT approval. .在线 (Dot Chinese Online) is priced at about USD 15 retail and .中文网 (Dot Chinese Website) is about USD 40.
