This week, Cisco unveiled the sixth annual Global Cloud Index (2015-2020) report on their website.
According to Cisco’s Global Cloud Index, cloud traffic is expected to nearly quadruple by 2020, representing 92% of total data center traffic.
Cisco released a PR on its website stating that cloud traffic is expected to rise 3.7-fold, up from 3.9 zettabytes (ZB) per year in 2015 to 14.1 ZB per year by 2020. They have attributed this rapid growth of cloud traffic to the increased migration of users to cloud architectures as the cloud has the ability to support more workloads than traditional data centers.
Cisco also stated that with greater data center virtualization, cloud operators are able to achieve greater operational efficiency while flexibly delivering a variety of services to businesses and consumers with optimal performance.
