American cloud computing and data center services provider Expedient today revealed its plans to upgrade and expand its Carmel, Indianapolis based data center. The company says it will inject USD 4.5 million into the facility in order to increase the square footage and improve its current computing infrastructure.

According to Expedient, the planned expansion will add 3500 square feet of computer room area, thereby bringing the data center’s total raised floor space to 26,000 square feet. Furthermore, another 12,500 square feet of electrical and mechanical rooms and more than 15,000 square feet of office space are also part of the expansion.

Plans to upgrade the data center’s computing infrastructure include the replacement of two uninterruptable power supply (UPS) systems, the installation of new computer room air conditioning units (CRAC) and power distribution units (PDU) and design improvements and additional cooling capacity for the HVAC (Heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system.

While announcing the company’s plans, Regional Vice President for Expedient, Jim Kothe, had this to say:

We’re proud of our continued growth in the Indianapolis area. Our investment in the Indianapolis data center demonstrates our absolute commitment to supporting our customers’ evolving needs, and further solidifies our position as an industry-leading regional provider of IaaS solutions.

This is Expedient’s third expansion and upgrade of its Indianapolis data center since September 2013, with the cost of the three projects amounting to USD 14.5 million in company investment.
