US based data management firm TrustArc today announced a technological partnership with Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing division of the Alibaba Group. As dictated in the partnership agreement, TrustArc will now provide its privacy compliance technology as part of the Alibaba Cloud platform to customers across the rapidly expanding Asian market.

In addition to privacy consulting services for TrustArc and Alibaba Cloud customers, TrustArc’s Data Privacy Management Platform and compliance certification services will also be used by Alibaba Cloud as part of its global compliance structure. The collaboration is part of the aftermath following the enforcement of new data handling laws in the region, such as China’s strict cybersecurity laws and Japan’s Protection of Personal Information Act, which has rendered the process of privacy compliance more complex and expensive for enterprises operating in Asia.

Speaking at the announcement event, CEO of TrustArc, Chris Babel, envisions a fruitful partnership:

Alibaba Cloud’s decision to use the TrustArc Privacy Platform and make it available through their global cloud service is another strong validation for our technology and we look forward to a long term, mutually beneficial relationship. Our partnership with them is an important step in our mission to enhance and streamline privacy compliance on a global basis as well as an expansion of our platform integration options.

In the same vein, Deputy General Manager of Alibaba Cloud Global, Yeming Wang, looks forward to the collaboration:

As China’s largest cloud services provider and one of the fastest growing cloud computing companies in the world, it is imperative that we offer our customers the services they need to address their most complex IT challenges. Our partnership with TrustArc gives our customers access to industry leading privacy risk management technology to maintain the highest standards of data protection and privacy.

The partnership was announced at the IAPP Asia Privacy Forum 2017, organized by the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
