Orange acquires Basefarm Holding for USD 409 million

The acquisition seeks to strengthen Orange Business Services’ position as a leader in the cloud computing services market for the enterprise sector.

French telecom giant Orange Group’s SBU Orange Business Service (OBS) has acquired 100% of Basefarm Holding for USD 409 million. With this acquisition, OBS aims to fortify its position as a leader in the cloud services market for the enterprise sector.

OBS say that the enterprise sector is taking great strides in terms of adopting cloud and big data services for managing critical applications as well as data analysis. They say that the awareness on the part of enterprise customers about the quality and benefits provided by cloud products has taken the level of competition amongst service providers to another level.

By acquiring Basefarm, OBS claim that they will be able to take lead as a provider of cloud services for the enterprise sectors and fortify their presence in European markets like Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Austria and Germany. They say that this acquisition represents an important step in the development of OBS as a provider of innovative technologies, especially in the management of critical applications, big data and multi-cloud services.

Speaking about the acquisition, Helmut Reisinger, Chief Executive Officer of Orange Business Services, commented:

We are very proud to announce the acquisition of Basefarm, which will mark a major milestone in our international development. In particular, the company’s integration will enable us to significantly extend our Big Data and critical application management services on a rapidly consolidating market.

Reisinger also felt that this acquisition would help Orange Business Service to transform enterprises digitally. He added:
