Google shuts down Drive web hosting service

The company recommend their existing customers switch to Blogger or Firebase Hosting

Google has announced that they are shutting down the Google Drive web hosting service. They are also encouraging their existing customers to move to Blogger and Firebase platforms for hosting.

The move is expected to affect users who have used Google Drive as a hosting platform for publishing content. The Google Drive web hosting service was made available back in 2013 and is scheduled to shut down on August 31, 2016.

In a blog post, Google said :

In the time since web hosting in Drive was launched, a wide variety of public web content hosting services have emerged, and we think better options are available to people today. As a result, we have decided to discontinue this feature and focus on the core Drive and Google Apps experience.

It has also been announced that the content or webpages hosted via Google Drive will not be accessible from August 21, 2016.
