Announced earlier today, leading South African communications and IT group Datatec has completed its majority takeover of South American cloud computing provider NubeliU via Datatec’s subsidiary Logicalis. The exact financial value of the 51% stake acquisition remains undisclosed.

Datatec expects the deal to play a crucial role in Logicali’s long term strategy to position themselves as a global cloud integrator.

In an official statement to the press, CEO of Datatec, Jens Montanana, said:

The deal will strengthen our commitment to the opensource community, in particular with OpenStack, which is essential for large software defined and cloud computing projects and will be able to integrate OpenStack environments with customers’ existing platforms across multiple product lines.

NubeliU was founded in 2015 by the team that deployed the first production clouds in OpenStack, which experts see as one of the foundations for the industry’s future infrastructure.

Earlier this year, Logicalis also acquired a majority interest in Packet Systems, an information and communication technology group based in Indonesia.
