Web.com has announced that they are now the owners of domain name auction site NameJet, after acquiring Tucows’ interest in the business. With this acquisition, Web.com will be nurturing their core domain business by anticipating the need in the market and supporting the needs of customers.

According to Web.com, NameJet was created as an alliance between Enom and Network Solutions, which is now a part of Web.com, in 2007 when SnapNames was ruling the direct-transfer expired domain business. As per the deal, Web.com say that Network Solutions’ domain inventory had to move to the new NameJet platform, which was later on combined with SnapNames.

By acquiring NameJet, Web.com say that they will continue partnering with top domain name registrars globally and help domain professionals, businesses and individuals to acquire valuable domain names. They say that this acquisition will also allow Tucows to leverage Web.com’s aftermarket expertise sometime in the future.

David L. Brown, Chief Executive Officer and President at Web.com believes that the move will help them bring their goal of ‘growing the usage of domain names globally’ into fruition. He also believes that the acquisition will enable Web.com to continue as a thought leader in the aftermarket industry.

It will be interesting to see how Web.com makes the most of this move, following its acquisition by Sirius Capital Group back in June.
